Summary of position

The Retail Specialist assists in the day-to-day operations of the business and serves as the store’s higher level leader when the owner is unavailable. The Retail Specialist supports Alair’s vision by providing exceptional customer service and personalized shopping experiences and building meaningful customer relationships. The retail specialist follows merchandising standards; and maintains a clean, organized and well-stocked floor.

This is a part-time position reporting directly to the owner and requiring availability on weekdays.

About Alair

Alair is a gift shop located in West Seattle, between the Junction and Admiral districts. We specialize in one-off, small-batch gifts with a focus on locally made products and companies that give back. We are proud to be a part of the West Seattle community and are honored to provide a fun shopping experience. Alair opened in December 2016.

Alair is growing! We’re expanding into the retail space next door and featuring Dylan, West Seattle’s newest clothing store! Dylan will be a daily lifestyle store for women, men and children. This station will serve the two windows.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Welcome, assist and retain customers
Accurately process transactions
Maintain knowledge of current stock and store location
Be able to answer customer questions, requests and concerns in a professional manner that represents the brand
Observe and anticipate customer needs
Complete the daily shift list and maintain a clean and organized floor
Replenish displays as needed
Maintain open and frequent communication about the needs of the store
Assist with event planning as needed
Open / Close the store when the change applies

Knowledge and skills required

Must have at least 2 years of customer service and retail experience. Store, merchandising and small business experience highly preferred.
Must have basic math skills and previous experience in currency management
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to act with integrity and professionalism
Must be able to perform and prioritize multiple tasks in an organized manner
Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team as needed
Must have the flexibility to work various shifts. Availability on weekdays and weekends is required.
Preference for candidates with visual merchandising experience
Physical demands

In performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently use his hands and fingers to manipulate or touch; frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
