UK Government SEIZES Chelsea; no tickets sold; merchandise store

The British government seized Chelsea from Russian owner Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government as part of its response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He is one of seven oligarchs to face new sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans.

The list also includes billionaires Igor Sechin and Oleg Deripaska, both considered allies of Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said ‘there can be no refuge’ for those who supported the invasion.

“Today’s sanctions are the latest step in the UK’s unwavering support for the people of Ukraine. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, the destruction of hospitals and the unlawful occupation of sovereign allies,” Johnson said.

BBC Sports reports that the Premier League were informed 15 minutes before their announcement.

The government is putting in place a license to ensure that the club can fulfill its objectives, that staff and players can be paid and that it can continue as an important cultural asset.

Season ticket holders can still attend matches for which they have tickets, but the club can no longer sell tickets that have not already been sold

The Merchandise Shop will be closed.
