NIL possibilities expand with the approaching football season

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) – With the 2022 college football season in full swing, the University of Tennessee football team will soon arrive at Shields-Watkins Field.

The ’22 football team is expected to perform at a high level and the UT campus feels it.

“It’s really a buzz on campus,” said Tommi Grubbs, marketing director of the Flights Shop.

The Vol shop became aggressive during baseball season, quickly getting merchandise onto the shelves after the team made a big play or won an important game.

“We’re constantly working on ideas and we can be responsive as soon as something happens and we want to advance our students and our players and we want to be the first source for them,” Grubbs said.

With high expectations for this football team to be good, the Vol Shop staff are ready to quickly roll out goods for them.

“When the team is doing well and doing good things in the community around campus, that really benefits us too,” Grubbs said.

New this year: Guests can now purchase player shirts.

The name, image and likeness deals allow the Vol Shop to sell active player jerseys, something fans are flocking to get their hands on.

“It’s huge because you can really show your support for your favorite player or players. It’s been really well received by the fans,” Grubbs said.

Expected in September, the jerseys add another item to the shelves of the Vol Shop and a way for the university to raise more money.

“When the team is doing well and doing good things in the community around campus, that really benefits us too,” Grubbs said.

Money spent in the Vol Shop goes directly back to campus, making NIL’s benefits and people’s love of items equally important to campus.

“It’s double because all of our profits go back to campus for scholarships and campus building and community outreach projects,” Grubbs said.
